You can also access dedicated careers support for international students. The program offers support through skills workshops and drop-in sessions, helping you navigate the UK job market with confidence.

Located between two of the UK’s most famous National Parks (the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales), is a historic, student-friendly city in the north-west of England. It’s known for its diverse, welcoming community and safe, relaxed atmosphere. Compact and easy to navigate, it offers everything you’d expect from a city, plus the added advantage of nearby coastline and countryside.

Among Lancaster’s cobbled streets and stunning architecture, you’ll find a thriving coffee quarter. Atkinson’s, the city’s primary local coffee roaster, has been operating for more than 180 years and supplies many of Lancaster’s independent cafes.

Alongside familiar high-street names, Lancaster is full of stylish boutiques, international supermarkets, and many entertainment spaces. It also has two theatres, cinemas, museums, and late-night art venues. A busy calendar of cultural events, from a light festival to live music gigs, means there’s always something to enjoy.

All this is just three miles from our campus. Lancaster has excellent transport links, making it easy to explore the UK’s major cities and beauty spots. Trains reach the Lake District in 30 minutes, Manchester Airport in just over an hour, and London or Edinburgh in around 2.5 hours.

At Lancaster, you’ll be surrounded by a strong community that’s committed to helping you thrive. Everyone’s needs are different, so the University offers a range of free, professional that you can access whenever you need them during your studies. The support offered includes:

Lancaster’s comfortable provides the perfect base for campus life, with options to suit different preferences and budgets. Choose from en suite rooms, townhouses and flats with shared facilities, or self contained studios. Adapted rooms are available for students with disabilities, and family flats for students with young children are also offered.

Accommodation on campus is located within the colleges, creating a ready-made community around your living space. You’ll be close to friendly faces and college events, while still having a private place to call your own. The University guarantees on-campus accommodation for all new full-time undergraduates who choose Lancaster as their firm choice and apply by the deadline.

With everything you need in one place, the campus is designed to help you feel at home and make the most of your time at Lancaster.

You’ll find plenty of places to eat and relax, including cafes, bars, takeaways, and restaurants. There’s also a theatre, art gallery, sports centre, and a student run cinema for when you want to unwind or try something new.

For everyday essentials, the campus has two supermarkets, a sustainable goods shop, a post office, a pharmacy, a doctor’s surgery, cash machines (ATMs), and launderettes. There are also prayer rooms, and Lancaster’s Chaplaincy Centre welcomes people of all faiths and none.

At the heart of campus, the is open 24 hours a day during term-time. It offers an impressive collection of physical and digital resources, alongside a range of technology enabled study spaces. Choose from silent zones, bookable rooms for group work, and calming, plant filled areas. There’s even a real tree in the atrium. The library also has dedicated teams available to support your learning.

In the 2025 National Student Survey, Lancaster received a 93.9% positivity score for library resources, reflecting the high level of student satisfaction.

Lancaster’s ?20 million offers outstanding facilities, including a competition standard gym, a 25m swimming pool, an 8m climbing wall and dedicated studios for fitness classes. There are also indoor and outdoor courts and pitches for a wide range of sports, and Lancaster students benefit from a generous discount on gym memberships.

If you prefer to stay active outdoors, the 2.6 mile Woodland Walk around the perimeter of campus is perfect for running, jogging or walking. You’ll also find plenty of green spaces and outdoor exercise stations across campus.

The students’ union supports a multitude of sports clubs, with something for every level of ability, whether you want to play competitively or recreationally. This includes traditional sports like rugby and basketball, plus more unique sports such as ultimate frisbee and korfball.

Many sporting events are held throughout the year. From friendly intercollegiate matches to competing in a range of sports at BUCS (British Universities and Colleges Sport), students are proud to represent Lancaster. As well, each year Lancaster competes against the University of York in the tournament. It’s a whole weekend of sporting matches, and it’s a fantastic event whether you’re competing or cheering from the sidelines.

Lancaster University declared a Climate Emergency in 2020, and it is committed to becoming carbon net zero from all emission scopes by 2035.

The University’s diverse range of play an active part in tackling The United Nations 17 Sustainable Development Goals. These include major projects such as installing a wind turbine and constructing a solar farm, as well as campus wide biodiversity efforts, sustainable food partnerships, and ensuring the campus is a safe place for hedgehogs. Together, Lancaster’s community works to address environmental challenges locally and globally.

This ongoing work has helped Lancaster to achieve joint 25th place in the UK in the 2026 QS World University Rankings: Sustainability. The University is also proud to have won the ‘2030 Climate Action’ category in the 2025 Green Gown Awards.

As a student, there are many ways you can get involved. The ‘Don’t Ditch It, Donate It’ project collects unwanted clothing and household items to reduce landfill waste, and the British Heart Foundation donation bins across campus can be used all year round. ReStore, Lancaster’s sustainable shop working in partnership with the charity St John’s Hospice, accepts donations and sells second-hand items. You can also volunteer with LUSU Green, the Students’ Union’s sustainability society.
